Most LA cars do best with a full detail once or twice a year and a shorter maintenance visit every two to eight weeks, depending mainly on whether the car is garaged.
IT DEPENDS ON WHERE THE CAR SLEEPS
Parking is the single biggest factor, ahead of mileage. A garaged car is shielded from UV, sprinklers, tree sap and bird droppings — the things that actually damage a finish. An outdoor car in the San Fernando Valley collects all of them plus a constant film of dust.

WHY MAINTENANCE BEATS ONE BIG CLEAN
Damage compounds. A bird dropping left in the sun etches the clear coat within days, and once it has etched, washing will not remove it — polishing will, and polishing removes clear coat. Interior stains behave the same way: a spill treated in the first week comes out, the same spill after three months often does not.
Regular short visits are cheaper over a year than an annual rescue job, and the car looks good the whole time rather than for two weeks after each detail.
SIGNS YOU ARE OVERDUE
Water stops beading and lies flat on the paint. The finish feels rough when you run a hand over it after washing. There is a haze in direct sunlight that was not there. The interior smells faintly of nothing in particular. Any of these means the protection has worn off and the car is now taking damage rather than shedding it.
